Chef Kimberley Calvo
My passion for all things food started when I was young. Our weekends often meant going to Seattle’s Pike Place Market, gardening, helping my dad grill steaks and smoke fish he had caught, watching my Noni make fresh egg noodles by hand. All of these memories have led me to where I am today, with the start of The Seasonal Palate.
Changing careers for me was a leap of faith. In 1999 I graduated from the Seattle Culinary Institute, earning the Outstanding Culinarian Award. I was off and running in the world of restaurants, culinary competitions, catering, corporate dining and being a private chef, but from the beginning, my dream and goal was to run my own business, show my own vision, perform to my own standards.
After many years of working towards this goal, The Seasonal Palate has evolved to be that vision. Artful, Simple, Clean is how I choose to present myself and my craft.
Come and experience what The Seasonal Palate has to offer all of your senses and spirit.
516 ARTS announces From the Ground Up: Design Here + Now, showcasing contemporary work by established and emerging Albuquerque area designers and architects. The exhibition features both built and speculative projects. Varying widely in scale, the work demonstrates shared interests in innovation, experience, material, form and function. The exhibition is curated by Katya Crawford, Viviette Hunt, Kristen Shaw and Mira Woodson, and is part of the collaboration On the Map: Unfolding Albuquerque Art + Design.
From the architecture perspective, the diverse body of work elevates the design discourse and ignites the imagination by bringing together the strongest conceptual projects in conjunction with selected built works. The exhibition focuses on the Art in Architecture, featuring a wide array of presentation media, as creative and varied as the ideas portrayed. Work includes digital films in an immersive environment, cartographies that map the architecture of mind and memory, and interactive installations that invite the visitor to have a phenomenological experience. Two-dimensional imagery nested in suspended cubes offers the visitors an unconventional journey through Albuquerque’s design talent, while charcoal and mixed-media renderings portray the sensual and intuitive side of contemporary architecture and landscape architecture.
From the design perspective, the exhibition explores how well designed objects have the potential to change the way we see the world. Utilitarian and ornamental design converse via functional objects, fashion and jewelry. The diverse body of work reveals the use of traditional methods in new conceptual ways, challenges conventional notions of beauty and materiality, and demonstrates a rigorous appreciation of craft and making.
